I just couldn't believe what happened to him! Surely he could of survived! I mean, Sonea killed the remaining three Ichani easily. Akkarin didn't need to give her ALL of his strength! He could have left enough to keep himself alive until Sonea could give him some back and get Dorrien to heal him! I was crying when he died, it was too sad!!! And then when Cery says about the look on her face when Rothen finally gets her to leave his body!!!
But anyway, who agrees that Akkarin could have lived and the story would still be plausible?

Akkarin, unfortunately, did have to give her all of his strength:
[The High Lord, Chapter: The Black Magician] "... She felt a surge of triumph. The last Ichani stood his ground. She felt her strength slipping away. He began to advance and she felt a rush of fear. A last trickle of power came to her, and she sent it forth."
That last trickle of power is what would have ensured Akkarin had survived had he not given it to Sonea to use against the last Ichani. I think Dorrien, Balkan and Rothen could have come down from on top of the university to help, their power could have been added to the shield, sonea could have used Rothen's power in the fight, whilst Dorrien healed Akkarin. And it definitely would have made for a much more amusing ending to have Sonea tell Akkarin she was pregnant.
Alas, he was defeated. I'm really looking forward to see what his son is like in the sequal trilogy!

Hmmm...did anyone physically grieve over Akkarin? It's only been two days since I finished the book, and I'm still upset. I've never, ever gotten this upset over a character in a story before. Not even in the Harry Potter books. I think I fell quite literally in love with Akkarin. It scares me, hehe. But, then, in my mind he looks like an older, more dignified, hotter version of my boyfriend.
God dammit! I want him BACK!

I heard TC was trying to make an unforgettable ending... she suceeded but i still find myself prowling the internet for a fanfiction that he survived in. Apparently, Im not the only one who felt that the ending was unsatisfactory, I am also grieving Akkarin... he shouldnt of died!

I was actually much sadder about Lorlen's death - and i just hope that Akkarin Junior gets some dark haired blue eyed healing-obsessed half-siblings to play with and that bit when Rothen realises Sonea's pregnant... DAMN i want to see the look on his face.
